RONDOUT VALLEY FOOD PANTRY NOTE
FOR NOVEMBER
Thank you to all who baked pies or bought a pie for the sale on October 5th; we made more than $200 for the Food Pantry. Thank you to our friends at the Stone Ridge Methodist Church for hosting the pancake supper and sundae making on October 19th. Thanks to all the cooks who processed the big load of vegetables brought to us by Gleanings. We now have a good stock of frozen corn, applesauce and tomato sauce.
RVFP REQUESTS
For your November food contribution we would appreciate receiving food to fill our Thanksgiving baskets, i.e, Stuffing, cranberry sauce, turkey gravy or broth, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, canned pumpkin, evaporated milk and pie crust mix.
We welcome your favorite additions to the Thanksgiving meal. We need volunteers to help pack the Thanksgiving baskets on Sunday, November 23rd, after the 11am service.
The boxes will be distributed on Monday, 8:30am-noon.
The food pantry welcomes cash donations that will help us buy the thanksgiving turkeys and any shortages we may face.
Thank you, Rita and Grace
WORKSHOP ON LEGAL RIGHTS
FOR GAY AND LESBIAN COUPLES
Attorney Jonathan Fielding, son of parishioners Ed and Carol Fielding, has offered to hold a workshop on legal rights available to gay couples. Since marriage for gays and lesbians is not available in most states, including New York, gay couples do not have the same rights as married couples. Examples are: the right to visit one’s partner in the hospital, or the right to make funeral arrangements for one’s partner. Jonathan has his own law practice in Mineola, on Long Island. All are invited to the workshop, which will be held after the 10am service on November 16th.
NEXT EPISCOPAL PEACE FELLOWSHIP (EPF) MEETING
The Episcopal Peace Fellowship is planning an ecumenical service in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. in January. In this time of economic uncertainty and political change, we will be focusing on Jesus’ teaching on wealth and poverty and the gospel imperative to love one’s neighbor. Please come and help us plan this community-wide event. We’ll be meeting on Thursday, November 13 at 7 pm at CTK.
FOOD FOR THE JOURNEY...will meet again at 7:00 pm on Wednesday November 5th. We will have conversation on the spiritual journey–the greater journey and our own. We will also continue learning about and practicing Centering Prayer. All are welcome. Save the date for December: Wednesday December 3 at 7:00 p.m.
A WORD TO THE HUNGRY-WISE: Sunday, November 2 from 8 AM until sell out…
The High Falls Fire Company’s fabulous breakfast buffet sell out fast. 10 o’clockers should come before the service for a plethora of wonderful food treats that you didn’t have to exert any effort to prepare! Jeri Weber

MOVING INTO ADVENT: A WOMEN’S RETREAT
Friday, November 21st – Sunday, November 23rd
Join the Episcopal Church Women of St. Andrew’s for a Retreat at Linwood Spiritual Center in Rhinebeck, a place of peace and beauty on the Hudson River.
Advent invites us to join Mother Earth in a season of slowing down, quiet, hibernation. The longer nights and colder days encourage us to stay home. Advent beckons us into our spiritual home. During the Retreat, we will be guided home by scripture, reflection, and simple gestures and movements. The Retreat will include silence and conversation, prayer and worship, and free time to walk, rest, nap, visit.
The Retreat Leader is the Rev. Gwyneth MacKenzie Murphy (Vicar of St. Andrew’s, New Paltz and Episcopal Campus Pastor for SUNY New Paltz), who has led retreats in Arizona, California, New York, Oregon and Utah.
You are welcome anytime after 3 p.m. Friday; the Program begins after dinner. We conclude with lunch Sunday. For more about Linwood, visit www.linwoodspiritualctr.org, for more about the retreat, call St. Andrew’s: 845.255.5098.

THE ROSENDALE LIBRARY
The Rosendale Library, formerly All Saints Episcopal Church, is undergoing a restoration of its slate roof. Many tiles are cracked, leaky and the whole roof is energy-inefficient. The state gave them a grant of $75,000 but they still hope to raise the matching funds to qualify for the grant. They need $37,500 in 2008 and the same in 2009!
If you would like to help, you can Adopt-A-Tile for $50 each. Any contributions, however, are welcome. All checks should be made payable to Friends of the Rosendale Library, which is a tax exempt organization so all donations are tax deductible. Mailing address: PO Box 482, Rosendale, NY 12472 or with credit cards at their website: www.rosendalelibrary.org.
GLEANINGS AND PROCESSING PROJECT
AT CHRIST THE KING
It’s all about "seconds," or produce the farmer is unable to harvest or market, a situation present on every large-scale farm. Gleanings recently took place at Davenport Farms, R.O. Davenport Farms, and Saunderskill Farms, with additional donations from Westwind Orchard and Gill’s Farms.
Thank you to Rondout Valley High School students, Rondout Valley Girl Scouts, community volunteers Carl Pezzino and Linda Wells, and our own special CTK volunteers who participated in the Fall 2008 Gleaning Project.
Volunteers used the kitchen of Christ the King church to process corn, tomato and apples into hundreds of freezable packages which will be distributed to our Food Pantry recipients. All in all, more than thirty volunteers turned out to help. This has been a terrific endeavor which we hope to continue. To volunteer in the future, please see Laurel Sweeney.
SPAGHETTI DINNER TO SUPPORT THE FOOD PANTRY: Nov. 8th!
The members of the Kripplebush-Lyonsville Fire Company on County Route 2, one mile south of Stone Ridge (687-9801) are hosting the next benefit dinner for the RVFP. Join them on Saturday, November 8, 4-8 pm for salad, spaghetti, meatballs, bread, beverages and dessert. Donation $7.50/ Takeout is available.
OUTREACH NOTE
The outreach committee hosted Christ the King’s first community lunch on September 30th. It was a wonderful success drawing 35 people to a delicious meal and wonderful fellowship. Thanks to Tana Miller for planning and spearheading a delicious lasagna feast, and thanks to her many helpers for their hard work and hospitality. A free will offering raised seed money for the lunches to be continued once a month through December. Please feel free to join us in preparing, serving, and enjoying our next lunch planned for Tuesday, October 28 from 11:30 AM to 1 PM. Help is always welcome, especially cleaning up on Tuesday. We will be making preparations on Monday the 27th from 1 – 3 PM. A special note: November’s lunch will be on November 18th and will honor our veterans. Our December lunch will be the Tuesday after Christmas: December 30th. Please tell a friend about this free open-to-anyone program, or drag one along.

RURAL AND MIGRANT MINISTRY UPDATE
Several of us gathered over the last two weeks to pray and seek God’s guidance on our ministry with the migrant workers in our midst. We have decided to spend the next several months gathering as much information as possible about the social, economic, and legal status of the workers in our area as part of our discernment. We are hoping to present a report of our findings to the Annual Meeting in January. Meanwhile, Tana Miller has agreed to be the contact person for RMM’s farm worker advocacy days in Albany and will relay information on such events to the parish. If you are interested in participating in this ministry or in this discernment process, please speak to Alison.
THE ANNUAL CHRISTMAS COOKIE SALE
The cookie sale as been booked for December 21st. If you are one of those really organized people who like to bake early—keep this date in mind. We will be selling cookies after each service that first day of winter, and hope to have an abundance of Christmas sweets to sell to the non-bakers. All money goes to the RVFP.
